Design brief
The drone chauffeur, the Virtual Reality mechanic, the four-armed masseur, or the Artificial Intelligent urban tester? The arrival of robots will significantly alter the labour market. Many people have a gloomy outlook on the future: robots will allegedly steal our jobs. But could robots possibly also generate new jobs and employment? Could they empower especially those people who face difficulties in getting a job because of low education, physical deviances and so forth?
How can we ensure that people who have difficulty to find/retain a job can make use of opportunities, enabled by robots and other technologies to execute new jobs? Could robots possibly provide employees with superpower, unique qualities which increase their working chances?
What technologies and people will hire themselves out at the employment agency of the future?

Who can join the challenge?
This design competition challenges designers, technicians, students, start-ups, robot enthusiasts, engineers, futurists and everyone with a fondness for robots and humans to reflect on new jobs in an automated labour market.
What is the goal of the challenge?
The challenge Empowered by Robots intends to gather innovative ideas regarding the ways in which emerging technologies create new labour perspectives. Also for low skilled employees, disabled people and people with no education. We are looking for new concepts that will sketch a positive perspective on the future. You don't have to hand in a working prototype.
The overarching questions for this challenge are:
1. How can people, with the use of technology, practise new (not yet existing) jobs?
2. How can people do their currunt jobs better with the use of technology?
3. How will new jobs arise by making and developing technology?
4. Can robots contribute to (new) jobs for people with no education/low skills?
5. Can robots prevent transforming human beings into robots?
6. Can robots empower people with a handicap to do certain jobs that they cannot do now?

What is expected from participants in the challenge?
To participate in the challenge, please enroll before the 31st of March 2017. You can do so on this website under the tab 'sign up'. After that you will receive a confirmation of your registration. Now you can start thinking about your idea. Please hand in your idea latest the 15th of May 2017 on this website. You will get the link after your registration.
What we require you to submit is:
1. A filled out online form with your personal details.
2. A visualisation (sketch, 3D model) of your idea.
3. A clear description regarding the impact that your idea has on creating/altering work for people who have difficulty finding/retaining work.
4. A video (max. 1,5 minutes) in which you show/explain how your idea is
supposed to work.

What happens next (with your data)?
First of all, your personal data will only be used for this challenge. We will not spread this data to third parties.
After you have handed in your idea, the documents will be made anonymous before they will be send to the jury. The members of the jury will deliberate the 14th of June 2017 on which 10 ideas are the winning idead and thus will win:
• € 2.500,- and professional coaching to help to develop the ideas into a prototype.
• Having your design on display at the Dutch Design Week 2017 in a 10-day exhibition curated by Koert van Mensvoort (Next Nature Network).
The 10 selected participants will receive a message mid June 2017 about the selection and will be coached on working on their prototype from July until September 2017. During the Dutch Design Week 2017 the winner will be announced. The winner will get € 10.000,- to develop his/her prototype into a proof of concept.

Who will win?
The winner is the concept which, according to the jury:
1. Will have the biggest impact regarding new labour perspectives to people who have difficulty finding/retaining jobs.
2. Is super original but also feasible / applicable.
3. Is well designed with an eye for design and technology.
